I am a professional (concert) singer of mostly Early Music (Baroque, Medieval, Renaissance) and a voice teacher. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance (cum laude) from the UW-Madison and a Performance Certificate from the Conservatory for the Performing Arts in Bremen, Germany. I studied privately with Cornelius L. Reid (NYC) from 1996 - 2007 and Carol Baggott Forte from 2003 - present. I have been a member of many performing ensembles in Europe including Sequentia, Elysium, Apollo's Banquet and Kantika and toured all over the world. You can hear me sing on several CDs, including "Auvergne Chants" by Elysium (Decca Records, Intl.), "Silence" with Meinhard Gerlach, lute (Picture So records) and "O Jerusalem" with Sequentia (Deutsche Harmonia Mundi). I now teach primarily in a private studio in England and online. You can read more about my musical activities as well as my work as a voice actor on my website: http://www.dianeseverson.com

I was in choir at JMM all four years, including the swing choir, the treble choir, and the girls' barbershop quartet. I performed solos at the annual Pops Concert. From sophomore year I was Choir President. I performed in the school musical every year. I also played baritone and tuba in band and marched in the school marching band in junior and senior years. My participation in musical activities at JMM were the best experiences of my high school years. It's where all my friends were and helped define my desire to study music when I went to college.

Regardless of whether a person decides to go on to study the arts in college or university, the arts are very important for the development of the brain and for human well-being. The added aspect of social interaction in artistic activities is also not to be ignored. Future students at JMM would be incredibly fortunate to have a state of the art facility, which can enhance their experiences. I never felt I was missing anything while I was at JMM, but I am definitely jealous of the prospect of such a modern facility for the students of JMM.
